Happy New Year from world headquarters in Honolulu.  It's 80 degrees and sunny here, and I am oh so grateful for the tropical winter.  Note, you could be here editing with me!

2012 is beginning with a bang...booked pretty solid through the first week of February, which is an exciting way to start the year.  Plus I have a couple of speaking engagements lined up: the February Honolulu Women in Filmmaking meeting, where I'll be backing up filmmaker Robin Lung's presentation on Work in Progress screenings, and filmmaker Marlene Booth's documentary class at University of Hawaii's Academy of Creative Media. I'll also be traveling to Texas to meet with Artist and filmmaking co-conspirator Trayc Claybrook on her newest project, LADY PILOT.

We ended 2011 with a flurry of promos and trailers we created for the good folks at PBS Hawaii & Pacific Islanders in Communications. Check out the Shirley Thompson Editorial YouTube Channel to see the latest work.  This month I'll be wearing my Story Consultant hat, cutting a 90 minute documentary down to a PBS hour for PIC.

You can also see more recent work with partner Stanford Chang through our newest venture, Chop Chop Media.  Very excited about this merging of old and new media and we are kicking around lots of cool ideas for future documentary projects, as well as our documentary style short films for the web.

Screenings & Awards!

EATING ALASKA remains the little film that could, chugging across the country and around the world raising questions about what's on your plate.  Screenings are planned in Ketchican and Fairbanks, AK, the Slow Film International Film and Food Festival in Brazil, Philadelphia, PA, Eugene, OR and New Orleans.  Check our FACEBOOK page for the latest about upcoming screenings, as well as Ellen's Blog.  Many of you know, this is a long-time labor of love film on which I was co-producer & story consultant with filmmaker Ellen Frankenstein. It's a PBS documentary about adventures in eating on the Alaskan frontier, searching for a meal that makes sense politically, socially, spiritually and tastefully.  See the trailer!
